Installing Radiant Barrier

Getting started:

It is true that installing radiant heat barrier can be a bit of a project.  However, with the proper tools and a little know how about proper radiant barrier installation methods, most handy people can tackle this job.

There are many different ways to install Radiant Barrier.  This guide will address some of the more common methods.  If you run into any applications that are not addressed below, feel free to send us an email or call for more information.

Must Have Tools:

Installation Tools
  • Staple Gun
  • Utility knife
  • Light

Good to Have Tools:

  • Shop Light
  • Head Lamp
  • Measuring tape
  • Dust Mask
  • Safety Glasses
  • Ladders
  • Reach Pole
  • Small sheets of plywood to walk on

General Tips:

  • First things first.  Think safety and use common sense when working on ladders or in attic spaces.  Drywall is not strong enough to hold your weight and a missplaced foot will quickly find its way into the living area of your house.
  • Consider unrolling the Radiant Barrier and cutting it into shorter lengths on solid ground.  The smaller, lighter pieces are easier to manage in a tight attic space.
  • Be careful when working around electrical lines and power cords as aluminum conducts electricity.  Keep your eyes open for exposed wiring or uncapped electrical boxes.
